Unfortunately things didn't go to plan for VOLKS LIGHTNING as she missed a place for the first time in her career when contesting the $100,000 G2 Eight Carat on Boxing Day.

As she has a bit of a freshen up the stakes placed SON OF MAHER looks to keep the flag flying and continue Vermair's good run of form. He resumed yesterday with an effortless victory. After drawing barrier one he got a nice run in behind the speed and once presented at the top of the straight he led the field to the winning post in what looked to be not much more than an exercise gallop for him. All going well this campaign will culminate in him running well in the G1 NZ Derby.

Another to keep an eye out for over the next week is the trial winning daughter of Makfi- MISS GUCCI. She has drawn the outside barrier at Thames on Sunday and will debut either there or at Ruakaka a few days later. She has shown a bit at home and while she will improve with the run and be better suited over further, with luck in running she could give them a shake first up!
